Things to do in Bulgaria

Travel to Bulgaria is exciting and fun. The country not only has a lot of historical buildings and monuments, but there are a lot of things to do in Bulgaria. Travel to the country is incomplete without dropping in at the famous places or simply walking in the beaches. Mentioned below are few such things which you can do when you visit the country.

  1. Chiprovci Historical Museum

Chiprovci is a small town in the North West of Bulgaria, which is famous for carpets and carpet weaving industry. This industry developed around 18th century, after the residents came back from Chiprovci uprising that took place during 1688. It is an old house in the town, which has been converted into an ethnographic museum.

There are different types of carpets and rugs, on display, that are nearly 200 years old. At the back of the building, there is a garden, where there were plants, from which natural dye was made. There is also a visitor's information center, from where you can gather a lot of information regarding the museum. Visiting this small town is one of the things to do in Bulgaria.

  1. Mount Vitosha

If you love mountain, then you can drop in at Mount Vitosha, which is near Sofia. This is one of the most beautiful places in the country, with beautiful scenery and breathtaking views. It offers beautiful view of the neighboring areas and if you like hiking, then you can walk as much as you can through the mountain forest. If you love adventure, then you can also enjoy riding on the cable lift, from where you can have a look at the entire surrounding area.

  1. Boyana Church

Visiting Boyana Church is one of the other things to do in Bulgaria. This is a medieval Bulgarian Orthodox church that is located near Sofia. The church has typical architecture, that reflects the medieval era, and there are a number of frescos or layers, of which the entire building is made up of.

  1. Rila Monastery

Rila monastery is one of the most beautiful places of historical interest. This monastery is located on the Rila Mountain. It is believed that St. Ivan of Rila choose to stay here, in order to escape the city life, some 1000 years ago. You can drop in here, not only to have a look at the monastery, but also to have a look at the architecture, which is worth mentioning. It is one of the old monasteries, in the mountains, not far away from the Greek borders.

  1. Roman Spa

As the name suggests, Roman Spa, it is one of the biggest ruins in the country and is the third biggest ruins in Europe. Visiting this place is one of the things to do in Bulgaria, which was built in 2nd century AD, and was one of the favorite bathing places for the Romans. They could bathe in either cold water, hot water or tepid water. Even though most of it is destroyed, only a small portion is there, of that of the original structure.

  1. Maarata Waterfall

Maarata Waterfall is near the village of Krushuna, in Loveche. This is a wonderful waterfall, where an eco-path is made near the village. The path travels to the Devetashko plateau and then it passes by the waterfall. It has crystal clear waters, where there are a variety of flora and fauna.
