Any discussion on Classical music events in Europe would include the BBC Symphony Orchestra. The BBC Symphony Orchestra Contemporary Composer Weekend is scheduled from 18th from 20th January in 2008 at the Barbican Centre. Much prior to the making of home of the BBC Symphony Orchestra at the famous Barbican Hall in the year 2000, an entire weekend was devoted by it in promoting and bringing into focus the emerging new composers.
But at present the BBC Symphony Orchestra started organizing this musical event in Europe for publicizing the musical maestros, who dominate the contemporary musical scene in Europe. The concept began during the initial years of the 1980s with a festival that lasted for an entire week. But with Sir Harrison Birtwistle, this festival began officially in the year 1988.
