- Diocletian's Palace
Diocletian's Palace is one of the heritage sites in Split in Croatia and was built by the Roman emperor named Diocletian. This palace was built at the time of his retirement on 1st May 305 AD. It is situated in a bay, four miles away from Salona, which is the capital of Dalmatia.
The architecture of the palace is worth viewing and is made up of white limestone, of local origin. The quality of the marble was very good and was mainly brought from the island of Brac. Some other items that were used for decoration, was imported from Europe.
- Brac Island
If you love beaches, then you can drop in at Brac Island. Visiting Brac Island is one of the things to do in Croatia, where you can enjoy crystal clear water and sandy beaches. It is one of the largest islands in the country and the mainland is separated from the island by Brac channel.
There are a number of mountain peaks in the island, the highest being Vidova Gora. You can enjoy both mountains and crystal clear water, along with different kinds of water sports and boat rides. The most popular destinations are Bol, Milna, Supetar etc.
- Archelogical Museum
Visiting archaeological museum is one of the other things to do in Croatia. This is one of the oldest museums in the country, which includes archaeological artifacts and different sculptures from the Greek, Roman, Medieval and early Christian periods. Visiting this place will give you an old world charm and it is a reminiscent of past.
Things to do in Croatia and Pula
- The Arena
The Arena is the open air amphitheater in Pula. It is the only remaining Roman amphitheatre, which is preserved entirely. This amphitheatre was built during 27 BC- 68 AD, and is one of the six largest Roman arenas in the world, that is still intact. In fact, the Arena is one of the best ancient monuments, which are still present in Croatia.
- Temple of Augustus
Things to do in Croatia is incomplete without visiting the Temple of Augustus, that is one of the Roman temples, that is still there in the city of Pula. This temple was dedicated to the first Roman emperor, named Augustus. This temple was built during the emperor's reign between 2 BC and his death in AD 14.
The temple structure indicates that the temple was originally dedicated to goddess Roma, which is the personification of the city of Rome. Even thought the temple was destroyed during the 2nd World War, but still it is well maintained and preserved by the Romans.
Things to do in Croatia and Hvar Island
- Hvar Fortress
Hvar Fortress is situated on the hill top and is above an old town. This fortress was built at the beginning of 16th century. The fortress was restored after the explosion in 1579. The original appearance of the fortress was brought back after much hard work. You can enjoy wonderful view of the entire town, from top of the fortress.
Plitvice Lakes National Park
Visiting Plitvice Lakes National Park is one of the things to do in Croatia, if you are an admirer of natural beauty. It is one of the famous tourist attractions and is declared as a world heritage sight by UNESCO. It is located between Zagreb and Zadar and the lakes are a must see.
The main attraction of the park is the sixteen lakes, which are interconnected with each other by a number of waterfalls. It is also a reserve forest, which houses animals of different kinds. You can hike the park or you can avail bus service, in order to have a look at the entire park.
