Royal Castle

The Royal Castle, which is a palatial building situated in the Polish city Warsaw, has been designated as the official house of the monarchs of Poland. Before Poland was partitioned, this Royal Castle was the house of Polish king and other administrative offices too. During the Second World War, the castle became the residence of the president of Poland. The castle is situated in Plac Zamkowy, at the entrance of Old Town of Warsaw.

History of Royal Castle

The Royal Castle of Warsaw which attracts a large number of tourists has witnessed several historical incidents. The German bombers demolished the building partially during invasion of the country in 1939. During Warsaw Uprising, a large part of the building was severely destroyed. During this time the people of the castle removed the marvelous art and architecture of the palace to save the treasures of Poland from the Germans. In 1970, the reconstruction work of the castle began, which was not completed till 1974. After the Royal Castle got back its original form the art and architecture were replaced. At present the Royal Castle houses a part of National Museum. The castle is also used for organizing ceremonies.

Royal Castle and its interior

The rooms in the Royal Castle will give you an insight to the rich history of Poland. The Jagiellonian rooms inside the castle was occupied by Augustus III. You can now view the beautiful portraits of the members of Jagiello family in these spacious rooms. The castle also houses the regal apartments. The apartments give a hint of the royal lifestyle specially that of Stanislaw August Poniatowski who stayed here. The apartments have wonderful collection of paintings of Warsaw, painted by Bernado Bellotto. The Royal Chapel, which lies in the vicinity, was designed by Domenico Merlini in 1776.

House of Parliament

The House of Parliament, Poland is located in this castle. The castle has been the seat of democracy of Poland since 16th century. In the year 1573, the new constitution of Polish-Lithunian Commonwealth was written in this historic building. The Royal Castle also saw the foundation of liberum veto in 1652. In 1791, the May Constitution which has been identified as the first modern constitution of Europe was drafted. The architectural pattern of the House of Parliament will remind you of Giovanni Battista di Quadro.
