That is why the local name of Wolfsburg is Stadt des KDF-Wagens, which means the 'city of KDF cars. The city is located around the village of Hesslingen in the Gifhoru district and while you are on your trip to Wolfsburg you must visit this spot to know about the lifestyle of the local people.

The Wolfsburg Castle, which was founded on the bank of River Aller around 1300 is one of the the biggest tourist attractions in Wolfsburg. In fact it was because of the castle that the city was named Wolfsburg after the World War II in the year 1945. However the main reason behind the popularity of Wolfsburg as a tourist destination is not the castle and historical buildings but the Autostadt, one of the most unique open air museum about automobiles. Owned and operated by the Volkswagen, the Autostadt now attracts hundreds of visitors every day.
