Although Ireland is known for being home to a number of historic royal castles, the Blarney Castle is often referred to as Ireland Castle by the locals as well as the visitors in Ireland. Ireland Castle or Blarney Castle is a medieval defensive structure sited in close proximity to Cork in Ireland nearby River Martin. The Ireland Castle belongs actually to the time period prior to the 1200s.

Blarney Castle was constructed almost six hundred before by Cormac McCarthy, one of the most famous chieftains of Ireland and drawing visitors from Munster and beyond. The castle was destructed in the year 1446, but was eventually reconstructed by the famous King of Munster, Dermot McCarthy. At present the castle is present as remains of the battlements and few open rooms.

The Blarney Stone or the Stone of Eloquence is placed at the top of the historic castle. Tourists who come to visit Blarney Castle can kiss the Blarney Stone in an upside-down position. This is because of the fact that they believe to get gifts of eloquence if they kiss the stone in this manner. A number of legendary stories are associated with the Blarney stone but according to some people it is the magical stone or “Lia Fail” upon which the crowning ceremony of the Irish kings was held.

The Blarney Stone is a slab of bluestone that was constructed into the fortifications of the Blarney Castle. The stone was placed in a tower of the Ireland Castle in 1446, which is now a well-known tourist attraction in Ireland drawing tourists from all parts of the world touring the Blarney Castle along with its surrounding gardens and for kissing the stone.
The Ireland Castle is enclosed with lovely big gardens and there are paths across the gardens containing signs for indicating different attractions at this site. The prime attractions include the exquisite natural formation of rocks, each of these being offered with fanciful names like Wishing Steps, Witch’s Cave and Druid’s Circle. The Blarney House, a more recent mansion in the park, was constructed in 1874 according to the baronial style of Scotland.
Blarney Castle is sited in the Blarney Village which is located at a distance of 8 kilometers in the northwest of Cork city in the southern part of Ireland. The Ireland Castle can actually be reached from the airport by traveling across the city to Limerick and from Limerick from where it takes almost 7 kilometers to reach Blarney.
