It was in the year 1564, that the Moldavian prince shifted his state capital from Suceava to Iasi. The history of Iasi however, is full of ravaging stories and attempts of attacks on its monuments. In the year 1513, the Tatars burnt down many parts of the city and the Ottomans repeating it in 1538. The plague of 1734 also affected the health of Iasi. When the Russo Turkish war was in progress, Iasi fell in the middle of it and suffered a huge blow from the Turks. Iasi is located on the banks of the Bahlui River.
