Sightseeing in France



There are many places where you in drop in for sightseeing in France. The country has a number of historical buildings, ancient architecture, cathedrals, palaces etc. You see different kinds of architectures, although nothing specific which you can call it as French architecture. Mentioned below are few places in and around France where you can visit for sightseeing in the country.

  • Eiffel Tower

Eiffel Tower is one of the most important places where you can drop in for sightseeing in France. This tower was built at 1889 and is nick named as the iron woman. It is located in Paris and is one of the iconic and most important structures in the world. It is one of the tallest buildings in Paris. In fact it is the most visited monuments in the world, which is always crowded with visitors.

The tower has three levels and visitors are allowed only to climb up to the second level. The walk to the first level has 300 stairs and so is the walk from first to second level. The third level, which is the highest level, can only be accessed by lift. The tower is often used for film shooting and is one of the famous places for tourist attractions. If you feel hungry, then you can eat from any one of the two restaurants that is located in the tower. Another striking feature of this tower is there are more than 30 replica of the original tower, in different parts of the world.

  • Versailles Palace

The Palace of Versailles is also known as the chateau of Versailles. The court of Versailles was the center of political and administrative power from 1962, until Louis XIV moved out of Paris. Later again the royal family again returned to the capital.

The royal palace is one of the most famous places for tourist attractions and offers some of the wonderful and breath taking views of the palace interiors to the tourists. All the rooms in the royal palace are one of its kinds, decorated with traditional item and artifacts which are still preserved and reflects the glory of the past. The royal garden is also worth viewing, which is more like a picture than reality. There are sculptures which are reflection of true artistic creation.

  • Musse d' Orsay

Musse d' Orsayn is one of the museums in Paris, which previously housed the railway museum previously. Now this museum houses mainly French art, the origin of which dates back to the period 1848 to 1915. The collection includes paintings, photography, furniture, sculptures etc. This museum is best known for impressionist and post impressionist paintings of artists like Van Gogh, Degas, Seurat, etc. This place is best suited for all art lovers and can be visited during sightseeing in France.

  • Arc de Triomphe

Among various monuments in France, Arc de Triomphe is one of the other monuments in Paris, which is a major tourist draw. It was built in 1806 by Jean Charlgrin .This arch was built in honor of those soldiers who fought for France and lost their lives during the Napoleonic Wars. The names of all those who lost their lives, including generals, are mentioned on the arcs. Below the structure, lies the tomb of an unknown soldier who fought in World War I. This is a triumphal arc that is dedicated to the army and is one of the famous places for sightseeing in France.
